Mind and Body Connection
We often casually toss around the term 'mind-body connection,' but do we truly grasp its profound meaning? Initially, I found myself in that category, uttering the phrase without delving into its depth.
In a world where we have a habit of relying on logic, science often makes us overlook the link between our mind and body, and while I've always considered myself spiritual, it was only through motherhood that I unraveled the genuine significance of this connection
For me, I faced the mental challenge of childbirth. Instead of viewing the pain as something harmful, I saw it as a powerful and transformative journey. It’s said that when your child is born the mother is also reborn. Not only is childbirth a mind, body experience but also a spiritual experience.
Fellow mums will relate - during childbirth, we confront the need to harmonise our minds to overcome the intensity, understand that our bodies are not in danger but going through a remarkable process of creation. Birth is a prime example, that is a profound experience demanding the convergence of mind and body connection.
It was once said, 'Rule your mind or it will rule you,' and nowhere is this truer than in the intricate dance between spiritual and physical well-being.
Scientifically speaking, it’s proven that our mind and body operate as a seamless unit.
What do I mean by this? To give you some more examples, imagine this: You’re enjoying dinner when a sudden thought about tomorrow's work presentation or deadline makes you feel nervous and jittery.
Or what about when you miss your period. Suddenly, you find yourself feeling nauseous and convinced you might be pregnant, even before taking a test— this is just one of the many examples of how our thoughts can swiftly impact our physical sensations. Our minds take control and whilst they seem like two separate units they’re actually connected as ‘one’ unit.
This is why it’s not only beneficial to take care of our mental health but also our bodies and our soul.
Earlier, I touched upon the mind's connection to our spirit. So how do they intertwine? Put simply, the mind governs our energy. Dwelling in stressful thoughts manifests physically; unhappy thoughts breed negative outcomes. An uneasy heart, lethargic energy, or aching body – are all tangible expressions of the mind's negative musings. We’re vibrational human beings at the end of the day and our vibe attracts what we put out.
To break free from this cycle, adjusting our mindset becomes imperative. Here are some practices that proved invaluable during my journey through motherhood and may resonate with you:
Movement emerges as a powerful antidote, a form of medicine for both the mind and body. Physical activity fosters mental and physical well-being, providing an escape from the labyrinth of mindless inner chatter.
Immerse your mind in positive affirmations and stay grounded with mantras. Whether you craft your own affirmations, read uplifting books, or listen to resonant podcasts, these practices nurture a healthy well-being.
Explore therapeutic avenues such as talk therapy, kinesiology, or energetic therapies like reiki. Transformative and life-changing, these modalities offer unique paths to healing.
Embrace movement as medicine through practices like yoga, breathwork, and meditation. These not only provide stress relief but also contribute to a calm mind, echoing through the body's well-being.
Delve into sound healing, an age-old practice to alleviate stress and restore balance. Music, a powerful communicator, can non-verbally address trauma and create a soothing environment. This is why we gravitate towards a particular genre when we’re sad.
Foster connections by engaging with friends who resonate with your soul. Different connections serve various aspects of our lives, allowing us to share diverse snippets with different friends.
Find solace in journaling, a therapeutic outlet for those who may find verbal communication challenging.
As a new mum navigating life, these practices have been my compass. You may find solace in one or a few of these that work hand in hand. Either way I hope you discover resonances within these words. If this strikes a chord with you, I invite you to join me on February 10, 2024, at our 'Reignite Self Love VIP Day.' It's an opportunity to connect with like-minded women seeking self-discovery and renewal just like I once did as a new mum.
